Antique Car Designation

As you are aware there was a discussion paper released on the subject of Antique Automobiles and feedback was requested for May 13 2011.

Antique car designation. But as with many subjects in the motoring world not everyone can agree on a single definition. Even if your collector car doesnt have an official historical designation the good news is that you can still qualify for Agreed Value insurance and lower premiums. For instance antique car registration documents are available for vehicles that were manufactured prior to 1981.

A true antique Latin. Knowing whether or not your vehicle is a classic antique is important for more than just prestige. Usually the magic number for cars to reach this designation is 25 years.

Either designation Antique or Classic allows its owner to reissue plates that match the model year of the vehicle but the plates themselves have to meet a certain criteria as well. Pictures are no longer required for the vehicle. You must have an insurance card for that specific vehicle.

There was only limited discussion on this topic at the May 31 meeting at the Registry of Motor Vehicles. Some vintage cars quality as antique cars but not all vintage cars are antique and vice versa. Generally cars that are considered Vintage were manufactured between the years of 1919 and 1930 but some end it at 1925.

The DMV has additional rules on its website pertaining to replica vehicles which may apply to some cars that go up for. First and most obviously the plate must be an original Texas plate and it must match the year of make as listed on the vehicles title.
