There are many schools of thought about defining classic cars and much of it is naturally subjective.
Antique car age requirement. Licensed Florida drivers can apply for an FL antique vehicle registration and special vintage license plates if the car they own is for private use is at least 30 years old and has been manufactured after 1945. As with many subjects in the classic car scene opinions on these definitions and categories differ depending. On the average though for a car to be considered a Classic Car it must be at least 25 years old and 50 years old for it to be considered an Antique Car.
25 year and older. This classification definitely overlaps with antique cars. Whether or not your car is considered an antique depends on who youre asking and what state you live in.
Cars must now be at least 45 years old instead of 25. 25 years and older. Produced between 1930 and 1945.
Currently the age requirement for a vehicle to qualify for a classic vehicle AP is that it has to be 25 years or older but this will now be increased to 35 years and older from the start of next. Fortner filed a bill that changes the qualifications for whats considered a licensed antique car. Post vintage any vehicle built between 1930 and 1945.
Narrower definitions vary based on how old a car must be to qualify. However some states consider anything made after the end of the Forties a Classic. So while the Antique Automobile Club of America says a classic car is one between 25 and 50 years old and the Classic Car Club of America says it is a car produced between 1925 and 1948 your state may have a completely different interpretation.
Retired commercial vehicle insurance. The Club accepts all makes of motor vehicles and motorcycles manufactured to a date not less than thirty years before the date of application for acceptance into the Club. Usually the magic number for cars to reach this designation is 25 years.
